Food Waste Effect

Hellmann’s put the urgent issue of food waste front and centre at COP26, the Climate Change Conference of the United Nations. Because if Food Loss and Waste were a nation, it would have had a seat at the table, being the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, behind China and the USA.

Globally, a massive 1.3 billion tonnes of food are lost or wasted each year - that’s one third of all food produced for human consumption – and accounts for about 10% of global GHG contributions.

However, as Food Waste often remains an unseen and under-valued problem, it was missing from the COP26 agenda.

At Hellmann’s, we’re on the side of sustainability & raising awareness against food waste. So to draw attention to the matter, Hellmann’s turned to the power of art to not only grab attention, but change the way people understand and think about an issue.

We partnered with Itamar Gilboa, a multi-disciplinary artist who shares Hellmann’s mission to get people to understand the link between our consumption and its impact, and created a powerful art installation titled “The Food Waste Effect”.
